Notch Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Notch ("the app") is made by Michael Bart. This policy says what the app does with information. Short version: Notch does not collect, store on a server, sell or share anything about you.
What Notch does not do
- No account, no sign-in, no email address, no phone number.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no cookies.
- Notch has no server. Nothing you do in the app is sent to the developer.
What stays on your iPhone
Your settings, presets, macros, pinned apps, the Apple TV you chose and the pairing key your Apple TV gave Notch are stored on your iPhone (the pairing key in the iOS Keychain, on this device only). They are not uploaded. Deleting the app deletes them. A small, local diagnostic note (the last few things a Shortcuts or Control Center action did) is kept on the device and is never uploaded.
What the app connects to
- Your Apple TV, and receivers or speakers you choose (Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer, HEOS, Sonos), directly over your home network, to send remote commands and read volume and the list of installed apps. This is why iOS asks for Local Network access.
- Apple Home (HomeKit), if you turn on the Home strip or use Home steps in a macro, to read and control the lights and scenes you chose. This goes through Apple's HomeKit framework on your devices; Notch does not receive your home data anywhere else.
- Apple's App Store services: Notch asks Apple's public iTunes Lookup service for the icon of each app on your Apple TV (it sends the app's bundle identifier, such as
com.netflix.Netflix, and nothing that identifies you or your device other than what any internet request contains, such as your IP address). Purchases of Notch Pro are handled by Apple.
Face ID and your passcode
In Guest mode you can choose Face ID or the phone's passcode to leave. Face ID is handled by iOS; Notch never receives your biometric data.
Shortcuts and Siri
If you use Notch with Siri, Shortcuts or Control Center, those requests are handled by Apple on your device. Notch does not receive audio or personal data from them.
Children
Notch does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
